What happens in the first session?
During our initial meeting an assessment, charged at £30, will be offered. The aim of the assessment is for us to think together about your needs and decide whether therapy may be helpful for you. The first session allows us to meet and discuss if we want to work together and gives you some time to tell me your story. I believe that it is important to find the right therapist for you as this can make a substantial difference to the outcome of therapy. This initial assessment will help you to have a sense of how it will feel, to be working with this me and provide you time to ask me question and to get a sense of who I am. More importantly it will give you time to feel how the therapeutic relationship could develop and to give you a better feeling if we could work together.

How long are the sessions, and how often should we meet?
The session lasts 50 minutes, and the number of sessions will always be mutually agreed but I suggest weekly, especially for the first 6 sessions.

How many sessions will I need?
Counselling and psychotherapy is a collaborative process where through a series of regular sessions we work together to explore and understand your challenges. There is no set number of number of sessions, and each client is unique. I usually advise to start with 6 to 8 sessions, with a review at the end to see how your goal have been approached and if you feel more session are needed. Some people only come for few session to focus on a particular issue while others may want to work at a deeper level and enjoy the support you will gain from the relationship. Both short focus and open ended therapy will be guided by what you hope to achieve from therapy and reviewing progress as we go through each stage together. The therapy will end when you feel it is time for it to end or to have a break.
